In this Intro to Pandas workshop, Ivan Corneillet (Instructor at Galvanize) will teach you the fundamentals of how to load and manipulate data with Pandas (the Python Data Analysis library) before jumping into practical, hands-on examples in part two.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • The basics of the library's two main data structures: Series and DataFrames
  • How to read (locally and from remote locations) and write data
  • The fundamentals to manipulate data in Pandas (i.e., inspect, slice and dice, and transform)

Level:

Beginner - Intermediate

Prerequisites:

What you should know (or have pre-installed) to get the most value.

  • Some experience programming in Python, i.e., familiarity with basic structures (list and dictionaries).  OOP will come in useful but not required.  
  • Anaconda Python 2.7 (https://www.continuum.io/Downloads)

Ivan Corneillet is currently a Data Science Instructor at Galvanize. A former hardware designer and software engineer, Ivan built High Performance Computing (HPC) systems before taking leadership roles in product management and business development. It is while completing his MBA at the Wharton School and by serving as a teaching assistant for its mathematical finance courses that Ivan discovered a passion for quant.
